Reasons to read Darkness and Company

“Darkness and Company” is a harrowing account of the extermination of Jews in Lithuania during World War II, highlighting the active role – or passive complicity – of Lithuanians. The photographs taken by Vincentas serve as a metaphor for the Lithuanian people’s role: were they mere observers or complicit in the atrocities? Sigitas Parulskis, a celebrated contemporary Lithuanian writer, received the Baltic Assembly Prize for Literature in 2016.
