“Dina’s Book” is a romantic historical novel set in 19th-century northern Norway. The story follows Dina, a wild and headstrong child, blamed for having caused the death of her mother. As she grows up, she becomes a free-spirited, seductive, Valkyrie-like woman who overcomes many challenges, including being married off to an older farmer.

It is a gripping and dramatic tale – some call it a bit melodramatic. This novel is the first in a tetralogy. Herbjørg Wassmo is an acclaimed Norwegian novelist and poet, best known for her Dina and Tora series of novels. She has received several literary awards, including the prestigious Nordic Council’s Literature Prize in 1987 for “Hudløs himmel”, the final book in the Tora trilogy. In 2002, “Dina’s Book” was adapted into the movie “I Am Dina”.
