“High Tide” tells the story of Ieva, a young and intelligent woman who grows up in the Latvian countryside. She falls in love, marries, struggles with motherhood and her disappointing marriage, and begins a love affair that goes wrong.

While the events of the novel may seem somewhat mundane, it is narrated in beautiful prose, in reverse chronological order, providing an intriguing insight into the ordinary lives of Latvians in the 1990s. “High Tide” is a tender portrait of a woman who makes several wrong choices in her life but ultimately becomes a strong and independent woman. Inga Ābele won the prestigious Baltic Assembly Literature Prize and the Annual Latvian Literary Award for “High Tide”.
