“Ice” offers a rich portrayal of life on a Finnish island, capturing the changing seasons, local food and traditions, friendships, and rivalries on the island. Lundberg’s novel became a best-seller in both Finland and Sweden and won the 2012 Finlandia Prize, Finland’s most prestigious literary award. It was adapted into an opera in 2019. Finnish author Ulla-Lena Lundberg grew up on the island of Kökar in Åland and writes her novels in Swedish. The book is partly based on her own family’s experiences (her father was a minister in Kökar).
