“Snow White and Russian Red” (also published as “White and Red”) is an experimental, controversial but also humorous novel that portrays the street life of a group of youngsters in an unnamed city in Poland. The novel is marked by an abundance of amphetamines, track suits, casual sex, and explicit language. Dorota Masłowska is a young Polish writer. She won the Nike Award, Poland’s most prestigious literary prize, in 2006 for her novel “The Queen’s Peacock” (which has not yet been translated in English).

The novel is set in a fictionalised Polish town, likely inspired by Maslowska’s own youth in Wejherowo in northern Poland.
