“St. Peter’s Umbrella” is the best-known work of Kálmán Mikszáth, who remains one of Hungary’s most cherished authors. The novella was so well-regarded that former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt visited the author in Budapest during a European tour in 1910 to express his admiration. Kalman Mikszath was born in Upper-Hungary (now Slovakia) and became a journalist, writer, and politician.
