T. Singer, the title character of this novel, takes a job as a librarian in the small Norwegian town of Notodden. There, he settles into life and marries Merete, a ceramicist with a young daughter. However, a few years later, tragedy strikes, and he finds himself in a new role as a single father.

“T. Singer” is a quiet, humorous yet melancholic novel about a middle-aged man who struggles with the challenges of an ordinary life. Dag Solstad is regarded as one of Norway’s most distinguished contemporary writers. He has received the Norwegian Literary Critics’ Award three times (for “T. Singer”, “Novel 11, Book 18”, and “Irr! Grønt!”), as well as the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 1989 for “Roman 1987”, and the Brage Prize in 2006 for “Armand V”. Other notable books by Solstad are “Shyness and Dignity” and “Professor Andersen’s Night”.
