“The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne” is a compassionate yet unflinching portrait of a lonely, prejudiced, and alcoholic woman in 1950s Northern Ireland. A deeply moving character study, this novel was included in the BBC’s 2019 list of “100 Most Inspiring Novels”. It was adapted into a British film in 1987, starring Maggie Smith.  Brian Moore, an author and screenwriter from Northern Ireland, is also known for his books “The Emperor of Ice Cream”, “The Great Victorian Collection” (winner of the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for Fiction in 1975), and “The Colour of Blood”.
