“The Shape of Water” was the first book in a series of 28 detective novels by Andrea Camilleri featuring the Sicilian police inspector Salvo Montalbano (whose name is a homage to the Spanish writer Manuel Vázquez Montalbán). The novels were bestsellers in Italy and were adapted into an equally successful Italian television series entitled “Inspector Montalbano”. Combining crime, humour and social observation, this novel offers an engaging and entertaining introduction to Sicily.

“The Shape of Water” is set in Vigàta, a fictitious Sicilian town modelled on the author’s birthplace Porto Empedocle, Sicily (where a statue of Inspector Montalbano stands). The television series was filmed mainly in Punta Secca, Sicily.
